Erin O’Brien is a freelance journalist living and working in Istanbul, Turkey. She has written for Foreign Policy, Jacobin Magazine, New York Magazine, Dissent Magazine, Al Jazeera, and others.
Erin is a graduate of New York University’s Global Journalism Master’s program with a partner degree in Near Eastern Studies. In her research, she focused on Turkey, the Turkish language, and state violence. She also graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Near Eastern Studies and a certificate in Persian Studies in 2016.
As a freelancer, Erin writes about a range of topics - politics, dissent, protest, food, and the economy. She is particularly interested in reporting on gender, state violence, and the legacy of conflict.
